While soapstone may seem to be a simple natural stone solution, we believe it is one of Mother Nature's little miracles. Soapstone is a natural quarried stone that comes in a variety of colors, veining patterns, and sizes. It's a metamorphic rock, also known as as “steatite,” and is comprised of the minerals talc, chlorite, dolomite, and magnesite.
As varied as any other type of natural stone, soapstone has gradations of density and hardness. At La Pietra Custom Marble & Granite, we import only architectural grade soapstone. This grade of soapstone has a low talc content, which makes it harder and more suitable for countertops, sinks and home designs.
Because this stone is extremely dense and non-porous, it has a visual coherence and smooth texture that no other natural stone comes close to. On a practical level, nothing will stain or etch soapstone, and you do not have to apply artificial sealers to protect soapstone countertops.
Soapstone conducts heat efficiently and can tolerate very high temperatures. You can set hot pots directly on your soapstone countertop without worrying or damaging your stone. At La Pietra Custome Granite and Marble, we carry a vast inventory of soapstone from around the world. Many of stock blocks of soapstone are available in the inventory if you prefer custom made natural stone sinks for your home or business.
