Normal Maintenance for MARBLE surfaces involves only periodic washing with water and mildly alkaline cleaners. Soap free cleaners are best because they reduce streaking and filming. Generally, mild, phosphate-free (biodegradable) liquid dish soaps work well if rinsing is thorough.
First, apply clean, hot water (not boiling) to the surface of the marble counter. Then, using the cleaning solution (be sure to follow the manufacturer's directions), wash in short, sweeping motions. Rinse with clean water to remove all traces of cleaning solution. Keep the water in your rinse bowl clean as well. Dry with a soft cotton cloth, then allow to thoroughly air-dry. Chamois skin also may be used in this process.
Marble is a natural stone, devoid of any artificial materials, and should receive careful attention. It is a good idea to use rubber-bottomed coasters under all glassware; placemats or color-fast felt bottoms should be used under anything placed on the polished surface. Many common foods and beverages are acidic, which could etch or stain the surface; immediately wipe up spills of any kind and wash the area with clean water. Use clean, soft cloths and lukewarm water; occasionally a mild detergent may be used.
In addition, cosmetics and any oil based caulks or adhesives have the potential to stain your marble surface.
