Granite Maintenance

Granite is a substance that quickly absorbs and distributes heat.  When placing hot pans on the countertop, avoid touching the exposed area due to the extreme heat being deposited by the pan onto the granite. Extremely hot pans should not be placed on or near small granite strips (up to 8") as there is not enough stone to distribute the heat.

Granite is a very durable material and occasional abuse is unlikely to result in permanent damage. La Pietra Custom Marble and Granite encourages you to use and enjoy your new countertops! Please feel free to call us whenever you have a question or concern about the care of your kitchen granite countertops.

Common care for granite involves only periodic washing with clean water and a neutral (PH7) detergent soap or cleaner. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's directions by washing with a short sweeping motion. Rinse with clean water to remove all traces of cleaning solution. Dry the granite surface with a soft cloth, then allow to air dry. Once thoroughly dry, you may apply a sealant. Sealants made specifically for granite can be used to increase stain resistance.

Examples of food or beverages that may cause surface stains on granite
mustard, ink, salad dressings, oil, tea, mayonnaise, butter, peanut butter, cosmetics, and any oil-based caulks or adhesives. For advice on how to remove stains, please go to La Pietra Custom Marble and Granite's Maintenance Guide.
