FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Why Natural Stone?

The character of Natural Stone cannot be matched by any man-made surface. You can use it on virtually every surface including countertops, vanities, shower enclosures, fireplace surrounds, floors, and walls. Natural stone is available in a large variety of colors and types to give your home the beauty and durability that will last a lifetime.

Is Stone a Good Value?

Initially, Natural Stone costs about the same as other solid surfaces such as Corian. Stone will add value to your home, and will never depreciate. The durability, longevity, and natural beauty will last forever.

How durable is Stone?

With a simple, regular maintenance program, your stone will last longer than the building in which it is installed.

How do I remove a stain?

Natural Stone is a naturally porous material. But stains are easily removed by blotting the spill with a paper towel immediately. Do not wipe the spill, as it will spread. Flush the area with plain water and mild soap. Dry the area thoroughly with a soft cloth and repeat as necessary.

Does stone need to be sealed?

YES, we recommend that ALL natural stone products be sealed to help protect against staining. A quality water-based penetrating sealer should be used. Sealing should be done at least annually and more often in high traffic areas. We suggest discussing this procedure with your fabricator.

Can I use SLATE in the shower?

Yes, depending on the finish of the stone. Slates with a natural cleft finish are not the best choice for a shower installation. Typically, showers are places of high heat & moisture which facilitates bacterial growth. The cleft surface makes it extremely difficult to keep sanitary. Honed, polished, tumbled, or brushed slate are a much better choice for shower applications.

Can I use SLATE outside?

Yes, depending on the finish of the stone and the climate where it is being installed. Slates with a natural cleft finish are not recommended for exterior applications in climates that experience freeze-thaw cycles. Slates with a honed, polished, tumbled, or brushed finish are far better choices for exterior installations. As an option, we stock 3 varieties of quartzite, a stone with a cleft slate look that performs beautifully outdoors.
